Malaysia celebrates its National Day on 31 August every year. This year, it is the 56th anniversary of the celebration, with the theme My Sovereign Malaysia, My Native Land (Malaysiaku Berdaulat, Tanah Tumpah Darahku.
Hari Merdeka, or National Day for Malaysia, is to commemorate the independence of the Federation of Malaya from British colonial rule in year 1957. However, some might also confuse with the Malaysia Day on 16 September, which actually the day when Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore joined with the Federation of Malaya to form Malaysia in year 1964.
Every year, the national day is celebrated with different themes altogether.
